This is probably going to be a long post because I actually have something to talk about this time! So get comfy!
So last night I decided that you can't make friends sitting alone on the couch. So I got in the shower and decided to take myself out on the town!
I found some addresses to some places and put them into my navigation so I could have a few different options. For some reason, as soon as I left I felt MAJOR anxiety. I am NOT shy. I do NOT get nervous in social situations, ever. I can talk to a shoe about the weather if needed. (that was the point I was at before I went out last night, ha) But last night as I was driving to my first destination, I was a nervous wreck! It was understandable I suppose because I was all by myself. I knew I would not know a single person and I was solely responsible for my safety. But still, I was literally talking to myself to make me stop shaking and to slow down my heart rate. RELAX CACEY, YOU CAN DO THIS. So it kind of became my mission to prove to myself that I could do it!
So I drove to my first destination, ITZ's. Its a sports bar, cigar bar, and night club all in one. I drove around the parking lot twice and finally parked and yanked myself out of the car. I walked up to the door and showed my ID. Before I walked in I looked through the window and saw a bar full of guys....like 50 of them.... not one woman. And they all looked around the age 21.... And I chickened out and walked back to my car. Too many people and just not what I wanted to be around.
So it's off to the next destination. The Ugly Stick. This place is actually 2 bars in one. The Ugly Stick is similar to a coyote ugly and the bar behind it is called the Tree House. It's small and kinda inviting. So I drove around this place 3 times and finally got out of the car. I walked to the door and asked the door girl a few questions about the place, she was very nice and helpful. So I walked right in and sat at the bar. I had already decided my drink before I walked in so I could seem like I knew what I was talking about. An Absolute Stress. (perfect name for how I was feeling) (its Vodka, Peach Snaps, Malibu, OJ, Pineapple, and Cranberry....delicious!) There were about 10 people in there, all men but at least it wasn't a multitude of them....I can take 10 with one hand tied behind my back, ha! It took a few minutes but my anxiety subsided. The man a few seats away bought me a drink, which I tried to decline, but he was the type that thinks it is rude and disrespectful not to accept, so I obliged. Anyhoo, had to fend off a couple guys but I got to talk to the bartender and kinda had her watch out for me...told her my situation. We actually talked enough to where we exchanged numbers...YAY!!! So I sat for a couple hours (by now it's about 9:30), too early to go home but kinda tired of this place, so they told me of a couple different places to go...so I went.
Here's where it gets a little tricky. So the next place is called Broadstreet. It's kind of in a shopping center kind of area. You had to give your ID and pay outside before you went in. Nice people outside, I even asked the door girl what the environment was like in there, she said it was very nice and a lot of fun! Cool. So I walk in and I am the ONLY WHITE PERSON IN THERE!!!! Not that I have any kind of problem with anyone of any race.... but it was obviously not my kind of place. It seemed like when I walked in the door, every single person in there looked at me....kinda like they were going to eat me for a late night snack... AAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I had to use the facilities so bad that I went to a bouncer and asked for a very quick way to the restroom... and I practically ran...not because I had to pee, because I was close to being scared for my safety. Oh, did I mention that it was 15 freaking bucks to get in??!!!! Yeah... didn't realize that. I handed the girl a 20, thinkin it would be like 5 bucks, NO..... I only got 5 bucks back! WHAT???? Needless to say...after I went potty.........I ran for my life, straight to the car. The whole time thinking, "get your keys out before you get to the door.... put your phone up, wait until after you get safely away, watch your surroundings, don't make eye contact, walk like you have a purpose, and have your finger on the panic button of your key less entry....." HAHA, you would have thought someone was after me.... I might have been a teeny bit dramatic, but better safe than sorry, right mom? =)
So after all of this, I definitely needed a drink....it's till early....like 10ish... So to the Big Apple I go. This place is a sports bar, restaurant, and big bar all in one. And it was busy. I did not realize there was a pretty big UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fight. So the bar was full of guys. I walked all the way around it once and decided not to stay. It was time to go home I guess... just didn't seem very inviting. So I went to the restroom and as I was walking out I passed a guy. He came to me and said, (get ready for this people....it's great! )
Guy: "Hey, this might sound crazy, but do you work at a bar in Tennessee?"
Me: (Stunned) "What? Why would you ask me something like that?"
Guy: "Because you look like a girl that works in a bar in Clarksville...the one by the mall"
Me: (Not believing what's happening) "wow, you're right....that's so crazy...."
Guy: "If I'm not mistaken, your name is Cassie or Cacey, right????"
Me: "WOOOOOOWWWWWWW.......I'm so sorry I don't recognize you..... but you have made it obvious that you know me.....
Guy: "Yeah, I'm just good at remembering faces......."
HOW FREEKIN UNBELIEVABLE IS THAT? He invited me over to his friends to get a place at the bar. One of them who lives in Clarksville. As soon as we walked up the friend says to me... "You look really familiar....where do I know you from??" WOW AGAIN!
I need to interject here and tell you that before I even left my house I prayed real hard for my safety and for me to have a good time. I didn't ask for someone to recognize me but I asked, real hard, for just a good night. Something I could be proud of, to make me feel accomplished, and just happy. That might be a little selfish, but I haven't been real selfish lately so I thought it was my turn. Oh, and I might have promised to still get my butt up in the morning and go to church... hehe =)
So back to my story.... I sat here with these 3, partly feeling a little bad because I was sitting with 3 men....but considering my other choices (Annabell) I got over it. I know my limits and I can take care of myself, so I just enjoyed conversation. Turns out, these boys do what Tony is trying to do and so they understood what he and I are going through. I kept apologizing for not knowing who they were, I mean, they did look familiar, but I would have never walked up to them and asked if they had ever been to the lodge! I was just so amazed that someone kinda knew me. I can't explain how that made me feel.
So they told me of a country place that's called Cadillac Ranch.... which was on my way home, so I stopped in and checked it out... but it was not nearly as cool as the one in Nashville.... so I finally made my way home. Feeling complete satisfaction for how my evening went. A couple of no go places, a couple of cool places, and people.... I like people.
And, just in case your wondering.... Since God held up his end of the deal, I held up mine! =) I'm not gonna lie, I felt a little yucky when I woke up. I didn't drink much last night but I get a hangover after 2 drinks.... so I didn't feel good but I got up and went to church. And it was amazing too by the way. Very intense. They showed a video they made giving statistics and showing pictures of just how horrible the world is. Abortion, Slavery, Murder, Starvation....you get the point. Heartbreaking. But the point was... "There will come a day..." Wish you could have been there with me. Powerful stuff. They also made 20,000 Halloween bags. They stuffed them with information about God and Manna Church. During the meet and greet time we were to come up and get some bags to hand out on Friday. Or to go around and pass out.... The bags say on them, "No Tricks, Just Treats".......... I'm enjoying my new church. Haven't really talked to anyone yet, but the connection I get with God while there, is unreal.
You know what else is unreal? The fact that I don't talk about my faith much. I don't do it partly because I am new at this. I still don't understand everything. And then partly because I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable because they aren't in the same relationship I am. And lastly because I know I am nowhere near perfect. I don't always make the best choices or think the best thoughts.... I don't consider myself to be a great christian role model. But that's going to change. Because part of my end of this deal is to be comfortable and share what I do know, with the people I know. I really really really thank Jon McIver for gently easing me into all of this without being pushy and inviting me to Grace. If I'm not mistaken, it was around this time last year??? He and his wife are some of the greatest people I have ever met. We don't have to talk everyday for me to know that if I needed to talk at 3 AM, even though they have 4 kids and live in Arizona, neither of them would hesitate to talk me through whatever I needed. We need more people like them in this world. OK, I'm done obsessing.... and I didn't write all of that because I know they will read it.... it just needed to be said.
I told you this would be long!
So, Tony's friend Tyler called today and asked if he could come pick up his playstation that Tony borrowed a while back. So he came over after church and sat and talked with me for a while. Really like him too.... I like him for Tony. I think he is genuine and intelligent. Super smart too. I like people. I like good people.
So I could tell you some other stuff like Annabell has peed in the house at least 3 times everyday since I bragged on her. Did some more internet research...she's also peeing in her kennel.... so I got a few new ideas and I'm working on patience....I would appreciate any suggestions....Speaking of....she needs to go out...so your saved by the pee!!! hahaha
Until tomorrow
